‘We simply harmonise’ – Karim Adeyemi on his relationship with Serhou Guirassy

Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, Karim Adeyemi discussed his new role at Borussia Dortmund and his relationship with Serhou Guirassy. Playing as a second striker alongside the Guinean, Adeyemi established himself as a key player under Niko Kovač towards the end of last season.

On his role alongside Guirassy, Adeyemi said: “I know Serhou’s strengths, and he knows mine.

“I always try to play around him so that he can control the ball, so I drop deeper and then feed him passes. In training, we practice working together and see what each of us can do and needs. We simply harmonise after playing together for a year.”

Adeyemi also discussed his relationship with Guirassy, adding: “He’s very quiet and doesn’t talk much. But I get along with him very well. And as we saw against Monterrey, we get along well on the pitch too.”

Borussia Dortmund booked a last 16 place at the FIFA Club World Cup against Real Madrid with a 2-1 win against Monterrey. Guirassy scored a brace in the first half, both of which were assisted by Adeyemi, who finished last season’s Bundesliga campaign with seven goals and six assists in 25 games.
