Sky Germany reports that VfB Stuttgart’s pursuit of PAOK attacking midfielder Giannis Konstantelias has failed.
The move for the 22-year-old has now collapsed after it was reported that he is set to sign a new contract with the Greek side. Konstantelias’ new contract will see him earn €3.9m per year for the next three years and will also earn a €700k signing bonus.
Stuttgart had reached an agreement with the attacking midfielder over a move to the Bundesliga, and had also reached an agreement with PAOK for a fee of around €17m. The player was even on his way to the airport to travel to Stuttgart before the move was vetoed by PAOK’s owner due to fan backlash.
The Swabians have begun to look elsewhere for an attacking midfielder. Red Bull Salzburg’s Oscar Gloukh was a candidate, but he is set to move to Ajax.
After a strong start to the window, Stuttgart have struggled to finalise deals, and most of this has played out in the public due to how far along the deals had gotten, pulling out of a move for Caspar Jander and looking elsewhere, and now the failed move for Konstantelias.
