St. Pauli confirm major shoulder surgery for English striker Ricky-Jade Jones

After suffering a nasty shoulder dislocation in a pre-season friendly, St. Pauli striker Ricky-Jade Jones has undergone surgery and may miss the start of the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign. The longtime Peterborough United man had gotten off to a solid start for his new German club, scoring a hat trick in the first friendly of the summer.

Hamburg’s Kiezkicker confirmed the surgery on Monday. Jones’ precise downtime wasn’t specified. The nature of such an injury should nevertheless sideline the 22-year-old for 6-8 weeks. Borussia Dortmund’s Julien Duranville recently had to undergo a similar procedure and is expected to miss the start of the season.

St. Pauli released a statement on Monday noting that – after much deliberation – the club’s medical staff decided that Jones should go under the knife. It now appears that Jones’ fellow new arrival from the Isle, Burnley striker Andréas Hountonji, will serve as the leading candidate to spearhead head coach Alexander Blessin’s attack.
