Watford have confirmed the signing of young Bayern Munich star, Nestory Irankunda on a long-term deal.
The 19-year-old is already an Australia international and joins the Hornets on an five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Championship side, Watford have reportedly signed Irankunda for €4million, with Bayern Munich retaining a 50% sell-on fee and option to buy-back.
The young forward transferred from Adelaide United in January 2024 to Bayern’s second string, but was quickly shipped out on loan to the Switzerland Super League with Grasshoppers.
Irankunda made 21 appearances last season but managed just one goal after completing 90 minutes just three times in 2025.
Irankunda is thought of highly in Australia and in 2024, he became the second-youngest player to score for the Socceroos in a World Cup qualifier against Palestine.
Watford are well-known for developing young players, with the likes of Chelsea forward, Joao Pedro and Tottenham’s Richarlison using Vicarage Road to hone their skills before big money moves to the Premier League.
Speaking of the transfer, Watford Sporting Director Gian Luca Nani, said:
“Nestory can be a very special player and we believe he can realise his potential here, with us. He is exactly the sort of profile Paulo wanted in a winger.
“Nestory was extremely sought-after and thanks to our established scouting network and connections we were able to be ahead of others in the race to sign players of this potential.
“Crucially, we were able to move quickly when opportunities like this arise and that’s been the hallmark of our successful recruitment. The player wanted to come here as he sees the pathway, he has seen how we develop young players at Watford and the vision we have for this club.
“We are absolutely delighted to have signed Nestory and he’s added further to the huge feel-good factor around the training ground.”
Irankunda will be hoping that his stay in Hertfordshire can launch his career in time for the next World Cup and beyond.
