Borussia Dortmund have confirmed former caretaker trainer Mike Tullberg’s departure. The new club that the man tasked with leading the Bundesliga outfit through three fixtures last year remains unnamed, by Sky Germany reports that the Dane is headed back home to coach FC Midtjylland. BVB are set to collect a €1m transfer fee from the Danish club.
“Mike has done an excellent job in recent years,” Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken noted in a club statement “After we parted ways with coach Nuri Şahin in the midst of a sporting crisis last winter, Mike took over our professional team and ensured that the chance of a successful end to the season remained intact.
“We didn’t want to take away the opportunity now presented to Mike,” Ricken’s statement continued. “Especially as the latest move by a BVB youth coach into the professional ranks will generate significant revenue for Borussia Dortmund.“
“Borussia Dortmund has shaped me not only as a football coach but also as a person over the past six years,” Tullberg added in his own statement. “At BVB, I was able to celebrate great successes with the youth teams, coach my first Bundesliga matches as a professional coach, and even coach a Champions League match. Six years ago, I could have only dreamed of this.
“I am particularly grateful to Lars Ricken for his trust,” Tullberg’s statement continued. “He opened doors for me and has helped me gain this opportunity. Naturally, would also like to thank all my colleagues and the BVB staff, who have become friends over the years. From now on, I will follow the club’s progress and your progress from afar and always keep my fingers crossed.”
