Bayer Leverkusen have announced the signing of England under-21 defender Jarell Quansah, who joins from Premier League side Liverpool.
Quansah will sign a contract until 2030 at the BayArena, and the deal is not related to Florian Wirtz’s recent transfer to the Premier League champions.
Liverpool have a buyback option in the deal with Leverkusen that costs €70m, and if the 22-year-old meets certain metrics, the fee could rise to €82m.
With the arrival of Quansah, Leverkusen have now filled the gap left by Jonathan Tah, following his departure to Bayern Munich.
It is unlikely that Quansah will be seen as the defensive leader in die Werkself’s back line as that role could be given to Edmond Tapsoba or Piero Hincapie, both of whom should step up. While there is also Axel Tape and Jeanuel Belocian who are options more fo the future.
Leverkusen can now turn their attentions to boosting their attacking options this summer, with Malik Tillman nearing a move to the BayArena and a return to Germany.
