The BBC reports that Manchester City have pulled out of the race for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz as they see the overall package as too expensive.
The deal for the 22-year-old is said to be around €300m in total, including the transfer fee and wages. City sees this package as too expensive and overly inflated. City has done this in the past, previously walking away from deals that they feel do not represent value for money.
This means the race for Wirtz is now down to both Liverpool and Bayern Munich. While the interest from Real Madrid has been documented, but is not seen as concrete as the other two.
kicker also reported that Bayern are not as clear favourites as first thought and that one of the two English clubs, Liverpool or Man City, was also in a good position to sign Wirtz, considering this recent move regarding City, that team has now been revealed.
Wirtz has yet to make his decision on his future, and no team has made any offers to Leverkusen. While die Werkself are also relaxed about the whole situation:
“That’s why this isn’t an issue that puts us under a lot of pressure.”
