Manchester City are attempting to hijack Bayern Munich’s move for Florian Wirtz. Sport Bild report that the Premier League side have submitted an offer for the German playmaker, who would come to the Etihad as a replacement for Kevin de Bruyne.
Kicker further report this evening that Wirtz is in talks with Manchester City. The Premier League side can pay the €150m transfer fee that Leverkusen desire for Wirtz, a figure that Bayern Munich may struggle to reach. Furthermore, Bayer 04 have no desire to strengthen their league rivals, meaning a sale to Manchester City is a more desired option.
Local paper Kölner Stadt Anzeiger reported this morning that the player’s future is still completely open with several clubs vying for the player’s signature. As GGFN reported earlier, the 22-year-old’s preference is to move abroad, and they have spoken to both Liverpool and Manchester City about a move, with the Premier League clubs more likely to be able to fund the €150m price tag compared to Bayern. It is unlikely that Wirtz will follow departing head coach Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.
