With the arrival of Mark Flekken from Brentford, Bayer Leverkusen have signed themselves a goalkeeper that will challenge Lukas Hradecky for the No. 1 spot. Now, speaking exclusively to Rheinische Post, the Finn had his say on his future at the BayArena, and his new competition.
When questioned about his future at the club, Hradecky said: “I’m definitely thinking about it.
“That’s no secret. But at the same time, it has to be something very concrete and very interesting for me to consider leaving this club after so many wonderful and successful years.”
Hradecky arrived at Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018. During his seven years at the club, the 35-year-old has made 286 appearances across all competitions, and is now a Bundesliga and German Cup champion. Under Xabi Alonso, die Werkself went a full domestic campaign unbeaten in the 2023/24 season, also remaining unbeaten in Europe until their Europa League final defeat against Atalanta in Dublin.
Hradecky was also asked about competing against Flekken, reflecting on the arrival of Matej Kovar who helped him improve. “That helped me perform better and if I get the chance, hopefully it will be the same now,” added the Finn. “But of course the signals are different just because of the transfer fee for Mark.”
