Bayern Munich’s Max Eberl has reacted to news that Florian Wirtz travelled to England on Tuesday for reported talks with Liverpool. The Bayer Leverkusen playmaker is a hot topic with Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern all vying for the player’s signature, while Real Madrid could yet come into the fold should Xabi Alonso desire a player of Wirtz’ calibre.
Speaking at Friday’s press conference, Eberl was asked how he received the news that Wirtz and his entourage made a trip to England: “If Florian Wirtz and his family made this trip, they’ll have their reasons. It’s not our place to comment on that.”
It was originally suggested that Wirtz and his representatives were in England to undergo talks with Manchester City, but kicker later backtracked on their original report and claimed that they were visiting the Premier League champions, not Manchester City, as initially suggested.
While Wirtz could yet remain at Bayer Leverkusen beyond the summer, die Werkself have no desire to strengthen their Bundesliga rivals, while Liverpool and Manchester City would have no problem in matching Bayer’s €150m valuation of Wirtz.
