Harry Kane has openly criticized the size of the Bayern Munich squad. The defending Bundesliga champions prepare to contest three competitions with just 25 professionals on the books. Kane spoke in the mixed zone Saturday after the DFL Supercup victory against Stuttgart, one day after attacker Kingsley Coman joined Al-Nassr for €35m.
“It’s probably one of the smallest squads I’ve ever played in,” Kane – as quoted by Kicker – said. “A bit thin to be honest, but we players can’t do anything about that. There’s time before the transfer window closes and decisions can be made.”
Whether or not Bayern will bring in more players or opt to rely upon young prospects remains to be seen. It does not appear as if Chelsea striker Christoper Nkunku will be joining the German giants. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, also speaking in the mixed zone on Saturday, admitted that his squad “isn’t the greatest in terms of quantity.“
