Every German Player to Have Won the Premier League

Despite falling off somewhat over the last decade, there can be no denying that Germany is one of football’s true powerhouses. Four-time World Cup winners, the time European Champions, and safely through to the 2025 UEFA Nations League semifinals courtesy of Die Mannschaft’s aggregate victory against Italy, the German conveyor belt of talent remains alive and well.

But how many of Germany’s biggest names have headed over to England to not just compete in the Premier League, but win it? Let’s find out.

Will Seven Become Eight?

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly only seven Germans have won the Premier League since its inception in 1992. That number could become eight this year if Arsenal can somehow find a way to usurp runaway league leaders Liverpool at the division’s summit. With the Reds some 12 points clear of the Gunners, the latest Premier League betting odds make Arne Slot’s men an incredibly short 1/50 to win the title this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side’s Premier League title odds are far bigger than their table-toping rivals, currently standing at 22/1. If they can somewhere pull off the comeback of all comebacks, then Kai Havertz will become the eighth man to have lifted the famous trophy. But who will he be following in the footsteps of?

Multi-Time Champions

Only four of those seven German Premier League champions have more than one winners medal. Three of them are from Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Manchester City.

The iconic Spaniard’s longtime captain İlkay Gündoğan tops the list. He has won the English top flight on no fewer than five occasions. After a brief one-year hiatus with Barcelona, he is back at the Etihad, and he will be aiming to add a sixth title to his collection next season.

Former teammate and current Bayern Munich man Leroy Sané has two titles, winning the league for the first time in 2017/18 and retaining the title the following season. As well as that, current City keeper Stefan Ortega also has two titles to his name.

Perhaps the most surprising multi-time champion on this list is Robert Huth. The giant German centre-back twice won the Premier League as a bit-part player under José Mourinho between 2004 and 2006. He would stand in for captain John Terry and former Portuguese star Ricardo Carvalho where necessary, making 23 appearances across those two campaigns. A decade later, he was a stalwart at the heart of Leicester City’s defence alongside Wes Morgan as the 5000/1 underdogs went on to shock the world under Claudio Ranieri.

One and Done

Three other Germans have won the Premier League just once. Former national team goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was Arsenal’s last line of defence throughout their invincible season back in 2004, playing every single game, conceding just 26 goals and not losing a single game.

Former Die Mannschaft captain Michael Ballack also won the Premier League once. He helped Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea to the title in 2010 after four years at Stamford Bridge. André Schürrle then won the title with the Blues five years later under the returning Mourinho.
