Criticised during his time under Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel, Dayot Upamecano has since re-established himself as a key player for Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany. The Frenchman – who missed the last eight games through injury – could now remain at the Rekordmeister beyond 2026.
Bild report that Kompany is expected to go into the 2025/26 season with Jonathan Tah and Upamecano as the two starting centre-backs, which leaves the door for Kim Min-jae to depart the club should Bayern Munich receive an enticing offer. The duo started in their 4-0 win over Tottenham yesterday.
Speaking in the mixed zone after Bayern’s victory yesterday, Upamecano hinted that all signs point to a contract extension beyond this season.
“I’m completely happy here,” said Upamecano – via Julian Buhl. “There are now talks with Max [Eberl], Christoph [Freund] and my agent. Let’s see what happens.”
After extending the contracts of Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich want to tie Upamecano down to a new contract, and it was reported in February that all parties were close to reaching an agreement.
