Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea have rejected Borussia Dortmund’s latest offer for Carney Chukwuemeka. The Bundesliga outfit persist in their attempts to re-acquire their former loanee, but have been rebuffed by the West Londoners yet again. This time, Dortmund attempted to secure a loan with a mandatory purchase option and a generous re-sale clause.
Reports on just how the latest offer was structured differ. Romano speaks of a €20m automatic purchase option, but transfermarkt.de and others claim that Dortmund offered only €17m. The German transfer portal even goes so far as to suggest that Chelsea might accept something in the €20m range.
Chukwuemeka enjoyed some favor from BVB head coach Niko Kovac last season and did make four BVB appearances during the recent Club World Cup. A new loan deal could conceivably still be arranged before the transfer window closes.
Dortmund’s offer of an automatic purchase clause that can be easily activated, plus a solid re-sale percentage, will surely tempt the Blues. Better figures must nevertheless be furnished.
