Borussia Mönchengladbach unsatisfied with Leicester City loan offer for keeper Jonas Omlin

Kicker currently confirms a Sky Germany report regarding Leicester City’s interest in Bundesliga keeper Jonas Omlin. Whether or not the Borussia Mönchengladbach professional will be headed to England nevertheless remains to be seen. Several obstacles may prevent Omlin from moving to the EFL Championship.

Omlin certainly wishes to leave Gladbach after losing both his place as the No. 1 keeper to Moritz Nicolas and the captaincy to Tim Kleindienst this summer. The Swiss international must still decide if the English second division offers him the best sporting prospects this year.

Moreover, Gladbach – due to their own current goalkeeping situation – may wish to retain Omlin’s services as a back up. Veteran Tobias Sippel will be busy getting his coaching license this year. Young prospect Tiago Pereira Cardoso has been earmarked for more practice with the U23s this season.

Cardoso’s Bundesliga experience means that the 19-year-old can be promoted to the No. 2 position, but Gladbach also wish to sell (rather than loan) Omlin. The East Midlands club has submitted a loan offer than – per Kicker – doesn’t quite satisfy BMG management.

Kicker also notes that Gladbach are experiencing similar problems in the case of midfielder Julian Weigl’s move to Saudi Arabia. Saudi outfit Al-Shabab wishes to acquire Weigl on loan whilst the foals are only interested in selling the former German international.

Both Weigl and Omlin could be remaining put for the coming Bundesliga campaign if Leicester and Al-Shabab do not tender purchase offers. The two players together maintain a combined €7.5m estimated market value.
