Stefan Lainer diagnosed with cancer

Borussia Mönchengladbach have released a statement explaining that Stefan Lainer has been diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes.

In the statement, Gladbach explained that the Austrian international will be absent for several months as he begins to receive treatment.

However, following comments made by his doctors, they believe that a full recovery is possible with the treatment. Mönchengladbach and Lainer have asked fans and media for their understanding that no medical details about the treatment and the healing process will be published beyond today’s information.

“We will do everything to ensure that Stevie receives the best possible treatment and wish him and his family a lot of strength and optimism in the fight against this disease,” said Roland Virkus, Borussia’s sporting director.

The 30-year-old defender has been at the club since 2019 and has played over 100 competitive matches for Gladbach. He has also been representing Austria since 2017, making 37 appearances for his country.

Everyone at Get German Football News wishes Stefan the very best and a speedy recovery.
