Mainz 05 have announced the signing of 20-year-old central defender Luca Kilian from Paderborn for a reported €2 million on a four-year contract.
The German youth international joined Paderborn from Borussia Dortmund last summer and played 15 games under Steffen Baumgart. Kilian impressed, but was unable to help Paderborn avoid the drop.
“Luca Kilian fits exactly into the profile that we are primarily looking for. He is an immensely talent, well-trained German speaking player who despite his young age, already has experience in the Bundesliga,” said Mainz sporting director Rouven Schröder.
