Jonathan Tah has established himself as a key player for Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad, featuring in all but three games, two of which were due to a yellow card suspension.
Speaking at Wednesday’s press conference, Tah discussed Germany’s philosophy as they look to secure their place for the 2026 World Cup.
“It’s about getting the basics right,” said Tah. “We have to go into the game with complete conviction – into one-on-one situations, pressing high and giving 100 percent.
“These are relatively simple things. If you execute them well as a team, it’s incredibly difficult for the opponent. That’s how you get into a flow where you press deeper and keep the pace of the game high.
“We have fewer training sessions here with the national team. We have to rely more on the video and theory. Then we have to put that into practice in the game, but they are relatively easy things to implement.
“What looks good comes from the intensity – how high we press, how we react when we lose the ball, and when we counter-press.
“You have the ability to bring that energy to the pitch, then you can score goals.
“Everyone has the responsibility to give it their all so that we qualify.”
Tah was also asked about the inclusion of former Bayern Munich teammate, Leroy Sané, who was omitted from Nagelsmann’s last two squads, but has since returned.
“I have a very positive impression of him and I’m happy he’s here,” said Tah.
“I’ve known him for a very long time; we’ve been friends for a very long time. He performs well, that’s why he’s here. And he will continue to perform well here.”
When questioned if he had any doubts about Germany failing to qualify for next year’s World Cup, Tah added: “To put it bluntly, no.”
Germany face Luxembourg and Slovakia in their final two World Cup qualifiers.
